Urban forest
The Urban Forest, or Linear Park, is ideally developed with a SE-NO path and is about 3 km long, from Pier IV to the Barcola embankment – Bovedo parking lot.
On the area there will be a slow bicycle and pedestrian path, walking and running paths, play spaces for children, youth, adults and the elderly, as well as a lane dedicated to service and rescue vehicles.
In the area will be the Nature axis, where the natural landscapes typical of our Karst environment will be recreated, and the Barcolana axis with functions as a connector between the Nature axis, the future gondola station in Bovedo and the Sports Citadel.
The large construction site is now in full swing. Current works include all planned demolitions and the removal of concrete paving, while carefully preserving the historical tracks. These operations are laying the groundwork for the installation of new surfaces and backfills, which will accommodate the planting of trees and shrubs, the creation of a cycle-pedestrian path, walkways, a running track, and new public squares. These renewed spaces will offer the community more opportunities to enjoy public areas and reach Barcola on foot, starting from a new square to be built next to Largo Santos, marking the entrance to the Linear Park.
The first renderings were unveiled two years ago by architect Alfonso Femia, the visionary behind the rebirth of “Porto Vivo.” The final project—developed by the design team at Hydea Spa—respects environmental guidelines, heritage protections, and integrates seamlessly with other developments, such as the restoration of the old warehouses, the future cable car route, and the upcoming district heating system. The project is part of an integrated contract awarded to the National Services Consortium, in partnership with Edilerica, Infratech, and B21 FM Soc.Coop.
